Mike tyson spike lee6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() What's most disappointing to me is that John Boyega ( Attack the Block) was set to star as Donnie, the central character who is a young boxer fresh out of juvenile detention on his 18th birthday. ![]() Written by John Ridley and directed by Lee, Da Brick was partially inspired by Tyson's formative youth and looked at what it was like to be a young, black man in an America that is supposedly "post-racial." The project began when Tyson was on the set of Entourage for a guest role and he mentioned to series creator, Doug Ellin that he'd like to build a show around his own life, much like they did for Mark Wahlberg's early days. In somewhat disappointing news today, HBO has decided to pass on Da Brick, a drama pilot from Academy Award-nominated director Spike Lee and boxing legend, Mike Tyson. ![]()

Empty book by suzanne weyn6/10/2023 ![]() I also noticed that Empty was written using the technique of 3rd person omniscient(not to be mistaken with 3rd person), which allows the author to write in 3rd person not concentrating on merely one character but all the characters. The story seemed 'meddled up', being anything but smooth. The time in which scenes occurred was vague, along with details of what exactly happening in the world around them. The idea for the dystopian world was obviously plausible but lacked enough detail to give readers the sense that the author gave the idea enough thought. The story was poorly developed with barely anything interesting happening. It was practically dead and well… plain boring. ![]() ![]() From the blurb I was expecting a fast moving dystopian sci-fi novel filled with suspense, action and adventure but instead I found a teenage romance novel with yet another love triangle! Don't get me wrong, I do like a good romance novel but the romance was anything but good. The overall story bored me to the point that I was skipping many pages at once to get it over with. ![]() Empty by Suzzane Weyn was a book that I had to force myself to finish. ![]()

An unquiet mind jamison6/9/2023 ![]() Bear in mind that this was written during a period wherein an admission such as this could have major personal and professional repercussions for a medical practitioner. Now, one of the factors that make the book so compelling is how Jamison-one of the world’s foremost experts on the disorder-pulls from her own experiences as a manic depressive to provide a holistic view of the illness. Written in the early 90s by Kay Redfield Jamison, a Professor of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, An Unquiet Mind is an eye-opening memoir that effectively changes the way one views bipolar disorder. And yet, while we are seeing change in the public’s attitude towards the illness, there are just a handful of autobiographical accounts that tackle both the personal and medical effects of the illness as brilliantly as Kay Redfield Jamison’s An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness. The onset of social media has also contributed greatly in disseminating information and dispelling biases against the disorder. ![]() ![]() Over the course of the last couple of decades, the medical world has made significant progress in finding effective diagnostic and treatment procedures for Bipolar Disorder, formerly known as Manic Depression. Next Of Kin by Jae6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Conflict of Interest and Next of Kin are romantic suspense novels. Backwards to Oregon and Shaken to the Core are historical romances, for example. ![]() All of them are romances at their core, but I write across all subgenres of romance. What triggered your inspiration?įirst of all, I don’t like to pigeonhole myself into writing just one genre. So I asked her a few questions to dig deeper into the depths of her shape-shifter stories.ġ) You are a writer of slow-burn romance, but in 2009, you wandered into supernatural territory and penned two novels ( Second Nature, and True Nature in 2013), one novella ( Manhattan Moon in 2012) and some short stories ( Natural Family Disasters in 2013), and you promised more. I was surprised when she told me she wasn’t a supernatural writer, even though I knew she had a twisted sense of humour. The first book by Jae I ever read was ‘Second Nature’. ![]()

Jodi picoult amish6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() However, Katie denies having had a baby despite medical evidence that she has. It’s clear, very quickly, that the mother is a young Amish woman called Katie, and that the baby has died. It starts with a brief, tragic and slightly confusing scene when a baby is born, and then vanishes. As with Picoult’s other novels, it became more and more difficult to put down, the further I read. I picked it up about three days ago… and although it’s not a short book, I finished it today. It was quite a surprise, however, to realise that I’ve had ‘Plain Truth’ sitting on my to-be-read shelf for over three years now. But it’s taking me a while to get around to reading them, perhaps because I’ve been concentrating on more lightweight novels. I have enjoyed most of them, and added a few more to my wishlist a few years ago. Each one has been very well-written, with a powerful plot, difficult to put down… and quite emotionally draining. I’ve only read a few of Jodi Picoult’s novels. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() We recommend the following books for all families, but especially for parents of white children who may be struggling to talk about racial injustice with their kids and teens. We also believe that one of the best ways to raise healthy, race-conscious white children is to talk to them early and often about racial injustice and racial difference in the course of your daily family life. Reading "diverse" books and cross-culturally is a great place to start. One of the easiest ways to do this is to have books around that prompt conversation and answer questions. Parents of white children often struggle to work conversations about race "naturally" into the flow of the day, believing that race, like sexuality or body development is a topic that necessitates a "big talk" in a time carved out from the flow of normal life. Time and again we read that white children are not taught about race and racial injustice with the same frequency or at the same early age as their peers of color. ![]() |
